How to build a website
Part 1
In this tutorial I
will give you the basic structure of an inexpensive well designed website
along with the best tools to achieve this.
You are welcome to
compare many of the ideas I mentioned to this website( the one you're
reading). I will use this site as a guideline.
I have designed this
site using Microsoft Frontpage and for sake of proving simplicity, it has only
promoted through free search engine submission.
If you have a little
cash to invest and want to bypass the learning curve altogether while using
the Internets #1 best software, then I strongly suggest you read this Site Build It!
review. I cannot recommend this Web Building System enough. When marketing friends will ask for my advice, and then say
something like " this has to work the first time, I can't risk failure!!!"
I will refer to Site Build It! as a fail safe ;o)
But...
If you're more
adventurous like me, you're not horrified of learning a couple new tricks and actually welcome
the challenge, then...
Then let's build a
website!
Side note
If you are a
completely new marketer, you will want to do a lot of judging when you look at
competitors websites. You'll want to know things like what they're traffic
ranking is, their pagerank, how many backlinks they have and more. In order to
do this you need to install a couple of free tools on your browser. These are
called toolbars and they will give you this information safely and more
importantly free.
Download and
install these toolbars:
Alexa
Toolbar
Google Toolbar
Why would you
want to judge competitors sites, and how do these toolbars help?
With the Alexa
toolbar you will be given the Alexa rating of each site you visit. The Google
toolbar will be discussed later.
The Alexa rating
is an independent assessment of that websites traffic by Alexa.com. The Alexa
Rating is based on the amount of traffic a website receives. There is also a
link on the toolbar to look even deeper into this by seeing the change in
traffic over a period of time.
If you have
installed the toolbar and look at it while on this site for example, at the
time I wrote this the rating is about 140,000. That translates to app. 500
unique visitors a day. As a marketer that's extremely useful info. If for
example I had a website that sold memberships, and I claimed that 2,000 people
a day sign up from my site, yet my Alexa rating was 500,000 you would know I
was lying! By the way, that's very common!
Spend some time
on the Alexa site and learn what the toolbar can do to help you more. We will
discuss both of these toolbars and their features many times throughout this
website.
End of side note
